NBC/CBRN BS-FFM Full-Face Respirators

The NBC/CBRN BS-FFM full-face respirators are respiratory protective devices designed for use in environments where certain airborne chemical, biological or radiological contaminants may be present, depending on the filter installed and the exposure conditions.

The full-face design covers the entire face, protecting the respiratory tract, eyes and facial area. The flexible liquid silicone body conforms to facial contours, helping to achieve an adequate seal when the mask is correctly fitted and adjusted.

The cylindrical panoramic polycarbonate visor provides a wide field of vision, including peripheral visibility. According to the product specifications, it features anti-fog properties and scratch resistance.

The adjustable five-point head harness facilitates adaptation to different facial structures, while the internal oronasal mask helps manage airflow and reduce the accumulation of exhaled air in the breathing zone.

The equipment also features an exhalation valve and an integrated voice diaphragm designed to facilitate verbal communication during use.

Technical Specifications:

Model: BS-FFM.

Type: full-face respiratory protective mask.

Body material: flexible liquid silicone.

The effectiveness of respiratory protection depends on correct mask fitting and sealing, the compatibility and classification of the filter used, and environmental conditions.

QUARTZO NBC/CBRN Children's Nuclear Protective Mask with Powered Air Ventilation

The Supergum QUARTZO is an NBC/CBRN respiratory protection system specifically developed for children aged 2 years and above, including young adolescents.

Unlike conventional full-face masks, which rely on an adequate facial seal, the QUARTZO system uses an expandable protective hood connected to a powered air ventilation unit that supplies filtered air into the equipment and maintains positive pressure during operation.

This configuration was developed to accommodate the physical and respiratory characteristics of children, whose facial dimensions and breathing capacity may make conventional adult masks difficult to use correctly.

Powered Air Ventilation System

The ventilation unit delivers a nominal airflow of approximately 45 litres per minute through a compatible NBC/CBRN filter.

The continuous supply of filtered air helps create positive pressure inside the hood, reducing the child's reliance on respiratory effort to draw air through the filter.

Positive pressure also helps limit the entry of external contaminants, provided that the equipment is correctly assembled and used under the conditions specified by the manufacturer.

Multi-Layer Protective Hood

The QUARTZO hood features an expandable and foldable structure designed to facilitate fitting, use and storage.

It is manufactured using a four-layer construction consisting of PVC / Nylon / Nylon / PVC, providing mechanical strength and durability.

According to the stated specifications, the material was tested in accordance with ASTM D882, a standard used to evaluate the tensile properties of thin plastic films and sheeting.

The system was also subjected to aerosol protection testing and mustard gas exposure tests in accordance with MIL-STD-282, Method 204.1.1, with a stated protection period of up to 240 minutes under the specific test conditions.

This period does not represent a universal protection duration for all contaminants or emergency scenarios.

Power Supply and Battery Life

The ventilation unit operates using four CR123A batteries and has a stated operating time of up to approximately 15 hours of continuous use, depending on operating conditions and the batteries installed.

Integrated Hydration System

The equipment features a hydration system that allows children to drink without removing the protective hood.

This feature facilitates use over extended periods, provided that the manufacturer's operating and safety instructions are followed.

Carrying Options and Child Fit

The system offers different carrying options for the ventilation unit, using back-mounted and waist-mounted supports.

For children under approximately four years of age, the back-mounted support is recommended. Older children may use the waist-mounted support, depending on their size and comfort.

Technical Specifications:

Brand: Supergum.

Model: QUARTZO.

Type: powered air respiratory protective hood.

Users: children aged 2 years and above, including young adolescents.

Positive-pressure ventilation system.

Nominal airflow: approximately 45 L/min.

Back-mounted and waist-mounted carrying supports.

The level of protection provided depends on the contaminant present, its concentration, the filter classification, the condition of the equipment and environmental conditions.

NBC/CBRN A2B2E2K2P3 RD40 Filters

The NBC/CBRN A2B2E2K2P3 combined filters are designed to provide respiratory protection against certain categories of gases, vapours and airborne particles.

They feature an RD40x1/7" threaded connection, compatible with the BS-FFM full-face respirators included in the kit.

The filtration system combines activated carbon, designed to retain certain gases and vapours, with a glass microfibre filter medium for particle filtration.

The availability of additional filters allows replacement according to usage requirements, while respecting operating limits and the manufacturer's recommendations.

Protection Classification:

  • A2. Organic gases and vapours: protection against certain organic compounds with boiling points above 65°C, such as toluene, benzene and styrene.
  • B2. Inorganic gases and vapours: protection against certain contaminants, such as chlorine, hydrogen sulphide and hydrogen cyanide.
  • E2. Acid gases and vapours: protection against certain acidic gases and vapours.
  • K2. Ammonia and derivatives: protection against ammonia and certain organic amines.
  • P3. Particles: filtration of airborne solid and liquid particles, including dust, fumes and potentially contaminated aerosols.
  • The P3 filtration component is particularly relevant in situations where radioactive particles may be suspended in the air, as their retention can help reduce the risk of internal contamination through inhalation.

It is important to distinguish between filtering radioactive particles and protecting against the ionising radiation emitted by those particles. Respiratory filters do not provide shielding against external radiation.

Technical Specifications:

  • Classification: A2B2E2K2P3.
  • Type: combined gas, vapour and particle filter.
  • Connection: RD40x1/7" thread.
  • Unit weight: 385 g.
  • Housing material: ABS.
  • Filter media: activated carbon and glass microfibre.
  • Storage temperature: -10°C to +55°C.
  • Operating temperature: 0°C to +60°C.
  • Stated relative humidity range: 20% to 95%.

The service life of each filter depends on the type and concentration of contaminants, environmental conditions, breathing effort and the manufacturer's specifications.

Filters should remain in their original packaging until use and must be used within the stated expiry date.

Disposable Protective Suits

The disposable protective suits are designed to complement respiratory protective equipment by providing body coverage and creating a physical barrier against certain environmental contaminants.

In situations involving radiological contamination, radioactive particles may settle on clothing, skin and other exposed surfaces. Appropriate protective clothing can help limit direct contact with these materials and facilitate procedures for removing potentially contaminated garments.

The effectiveness of protection depends on the material properties, construction and classification of the suit, as well as its correct use alongside other personal protective equipment.

Intended Functions:

Body coverage during exposure to certain contaminants.

Physical barrier against particle deposition, according to the equipment's protection classification.

Complementary respiratory and facial protection.

Single-use application in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

Support for personal protection and decontamination procedures.

Disposable protective suits do not replace radiological shielding systems and do not, on their own, provide protection against external ionising radiation.
