The EnGarde TUFF-PRO-HD™ is a hard ballistic plate designed to complement body armour systems and increase the level of protection against high-energy threats. Manufactured using a combination of ceramic and polyethylene (PE), it features a curved construction designed to balance ballistic protection with body fit.

The plate has a manufacturer-declared classification of NIJ Level IV (ICW), according to NIJ STD 0101.04. The designation ICW, In Conjunction With, means that this classification is achieved when the plate is used together with suitable soft ballistic armour. EnGarde specifies its use in combination with an NIJ Level IIIA vest.

With dimensions of 25 × 30 cm, a weight of 2.7 kg and a thickness of 24 mm, the TUFF-PRO-HD™ is intended for personal protection systems designed to accommodate hard ballistic plates.

Ballistic Protection

The TUFF-PRO-HD™ is part of EnGarde’s range of hard armour plates and carries an NIJ Level IV (ICW) classification according to STD 0101.04.

According to EnGarde, the plate was developed to provide protection against high-powered rifle ammunition and armour-piercing threats when used as part of the protection configuration specified by the manufacturer.

As an ICW solution, the plate should not be interpreted as a standalone Level IV plate. The stated protection level is achieved when used together with a suitable soft ballistic armour system, namely a Level IIA vest, as specified by EnGarde.

Ceramic and PE Construction

The TUFF-PRO-HD™ combines ceramic material with polyethylene (PE).

This configuration brings together different materials in a hard armour plate designed to withstand high-energy ballistic threats, while maintaining a thickness of 24 mm and a declared weight of 2.7 kg.

Its curved geometry is designed to improve the fit of the plate against the torso when installed in a compatible vest or plate carrier.

Compatibility

The TUFF-PRO-HD™ was developed for use in conjunction with soft ballistic armour and should be installed in a vest or plate carrier compatible with 25 × 30 cm plates and with the configuration specified by the manufacturer.

EnGarde states that several of its tactical systems support the use of Level III and Level IV hard armour plates, including the PATROL™, RHINO™, PANTHER™, LEOPARD™ and T.R.U.S.T.™ ranges.
